I first found out about Chilliwack after listening to a compilation series called "Heard It On The Radio"! I always thought that they were radio hits, but this comp series was made by someone who felt that these were artists and songs that should be better known.

Retronaut Favorites: Sparks

I first found out about Sparks from my dad. I always remember him spinning “Angst In My Pants” on vinyl, because he never had anything by Sparks on CD. However, he eventually told me that he had a 2 CD compilation, but that had all different songs from their catalog on it! After listening to Angst In My Pants, and that comp, “Moustache” became my first favorite Sparks song. We wanted to get more Sparks albums on vinyl, so we started looking on eBay and in record stores to find the ones we didn't have. During this time, we started getting into “No. 1 Song In Heaven”, “Terminal Jive”, and “Indiscreet”. Sparks is such a unique group and they’re so interesting to listen to. They have so many albums, in so many different styles. I don’t know a lot of people who listen to them, but that seems to be something that a lot of great artists have in common. The important thing is knowing that there is truly interesting stuff out there, and that it what makes it worth searching for. Also, Sparks albums are very rare. I’ve only seen most Sparks vinyl because my dad found them and got them the one time that he saw them.

Retronaut Selects: The Laughing Dogs - The Laughing Dogs (1979)

I first found out about The Laughing Dogs when I saw a copy of their album "Meet Their Makers" at Gallery Of Sound! I had no idea who they were, but something about it caught my attention. I got it and they turned out to be one of the many underrated acts from the new wave explosion...they just weren't one of the best known ones, and oddly, the best bands are never the ones who become extremely popular. Maybe they're too different...or in other words, they're original.

Interview: Vinok

1: How did you decide on the name, “Vinok"?Ilya and Nathalie originally started the band being in the US and wanted to associate the band with something meaningful and that at the same time connected us with a part of the world that is dear to us – Ukraine. Vinok seemed to be the perfect pick as it serves both purposes: the word means a flower crown in Ukrainian and is a traditional wreath to symbolize purity throughout centuries in Ukraine. It’s now worn duringfestivals and traditional events in Ukraine. We like that combination of purity, power, and festivity, the serious and the fun.

Premiere: SaintAhmad

SaintAhmad's newest tune "Clouds" is a tune that showcases the soulfulness of Ahmad's voice. This song is perfect to unwind to, and it makes you forget about everything you're worrying about. This is because it captures the listener's attention from the beginning of the song to the end, something rarely achieved because many songs have great parts but few songs are great songs as a whole.

Under The Radar: Starz

The first time I remember hearing Starz was in December 2011, when my dad was playing his CD copy of Violation. I remember hearing one song and I asked him who it was, and for some reason a little bit of time passed before I properly checked them out.
