Retronaut Selects: Tommy Tutone - National Emotion (1983)

Published on 10 January 2026 at 08:05

I discovered Tommy Tutone when I heard my mom singing the "Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to?" lyric from "867-5309/Jenny". I googled it and discovered Tommy Tutone.

When I was a teenager, I remember seeing copies of the first two Tutone albums and they were always beat up, so I haven't added them to my collection just yet. I prefer to get records in mint condition since I'm a record collector.

During a more recent record store trip, I came across "National Emotion", which I didn't know existed until I saw it on vinyl. I think it was the first time I ever saw "National Emotion" on vinyl. The copy I found was a promo and it was in mint condition, and I didn't leave it behind. I now own my first Tutone album after years of seeing beat up copies of the other albums.

I hope I can find the first two Tutone albums this year preferably as promotional copies, so we'll see what happens.

I've listened to this album numerous times and I couldn't resist featuring it in 2026's selection of Retronaut Selects.
