Retronaut Selects: Dirty Looks - Turn Of The Screw (1989)

I discovered Dirty Looks at Gallery Sound.

They had a copy of their second album, "Turn Of The Screw" for $8.

I didn't buy it since my dad told me he had this album in his CD collection.

I was thinking about different perspectives of collecting music and recently, I've been trying to buy records that I don't own in any other format.

If I own it on CD, I'll skip it on vinyl. It makes each part of my music collection feel special since my record collection isn't the same as my CD collection.

This album is super rare on vinyl because 1989 was part of the era where CDs were popular and less vinyl was being produced than before. It was the music industry phasing out one format and choosing the one that was going to be the next big format.

This was also shortly before the rise of grunge and that resulted in the music industry promoting grunge rather than hard rock. It was seen as out of style but there were plenty of bands including Dirty Looks creating fantastic music. This reminds us why we can't follow trends, we as listeners should listen to everything and decide what we like.

"Turn Of The Screw" is Dirty Looks second album on Atlantic Records and it is darn good. It's packed with awesome hard rock tunes like "Love Screams",  "Always A Loser", and "Turn Of The Screw".
