Interview: Liberty Deep Down

Published on 23 August 2021 at 15:35

1: How did you decide on the name, “Liberty Deep Down"?

The name originated from members that grew up in Liberty township in Ohio. However throughout the years (and continuous name announcement mishaps) we have been also been going by “LDD” for a while as well. Easier to remember easier to say.

2: What inspires you to create?

Anything and everything. We are all such fans of music that it brings such joy to create it. Especially in this last year we’ve really gotten to hone in on songwriting and it has benefited us immensely.

3: What advice would you give to someone who wants to be in a creative profession?

Dom: Don’t be afraid of rejection. Without rejection there is no room to grow and no way to truly see what you want to set out to do and set out to be.

Cam: Throw yourself into every aspect of of what you’re pursuing and chase what it is that gets you hyped to do it.

Coop: Trust your instincts.

4: Do you feel open minded about what you listen to? Do you like going out of your comfort zone?

Dom: I would like to think we’re all very open minded about what we listen to. Between the three of us the diversity of music taste  is pretty insane. We just enjoy good music. We listen to everything from classic rock to hip hop to jazz to thrash metal to modern day top 40 pop to country etc...We love music and we love to create music. We take influence from all genres. Going out of your comfort zone is where the fun really starts.

5: What outlets do you find out about music from? (Record stores, magazines, samplers, etc.)

DomWe find out about music through many different outlets which is honestly great because new music can surprise you at any time. Through word of mouth from friends, to ads on social media, magazine subscriptions, to random daily mix playlists that pop up on our phones, the ability to discover new music now is limitless. It’s slightly overwhelming but awesome.

6: What is your favorite format to listen to music on? (CD, Vinyl, etc.)

Dom: Apple Music or Vinyl when I have the time.

Cam: Streaming (Spotify)

Cooper: Vinyl for classic rock. Apple Music for anything after 1990.

7: What band/artist do you think everyone should listen to?

Dom: I would say Hey You by LDD

Cam: LDD BABY

Coop: That new one by LDD

8: What motivates you to check out a new artist?

We understand what it’s like putting your art out there and hoping it gets heard. Everyone was nobody before they were somebody and you never know if the song  you go to check out will end up being your next favorite song or if the artist will end up being your next obsession.

9: Who was the first band/artist that became your favorite band?

Dom: AC/DC / Aerosmith

Cooper: Metallica / Ozzy Osbourne

Cam: Rush / Michael Jackson

10: What was the inspiration for your song “Hey You”?

Written in the early months of the pandemic in a home studio that we had just finished building, we tried to embody what life was going to feel like once the lights came back on, with a brand new feeling.
