Interview: Ready the Prince

1: How did you decide on the name, “Ready the Prince"?

I think it's a similar story to most bands. After combining words together for months one of us said "Ready the Prince", and that was that. We knew it was the one.
2: What inspires you to create?

We are artists at our core. This is just what we do to survive, explore, and enjoy our lives. Since the day we wrote our first song we knew this is what we needed to do.
3: What advice would you give to someone who wants to be in a creative profession?

Don't be afraid to fail. Don't be afraid to start from the beginning and learn slowly. If this is what you love to do you just follow that passion and give it everything you have. It'll all work out eventually, just never give up.
4: Do you feel open minded about what you listen to? Do you like going out of your comfort zone?

Oh absolutely! I believe exposing yourself to all sorts of different styles and types of music is how you become inspired to create your own unique sound. All music is amazing in it's own way.
5: What outlets do you find out about music from? (Record stores, magazines, samplers, etc.)

I will always say the best way to find out about music is from someone personally, like a friend, or someone who you follow online. I've been finding some great stuff searching through Spotify these days as well, the "Discover Weekly" playlist has some gold in it from time to time, and it's usually music from artists that are more underground which I always prefer.
6: What is your favorite format to listen to music on? (CD, Vinyl, etc.)

Nothing really beats a CD in the car for me. CD's sound better than streaming apps do. Vinyl is great of course too, I wish I had more vinyls.
7: What band/artist do you think everyone should listen to?

There's an awesome band called Hello Yello I suggest checking out. Anyone who likes our music will probably vibe with them.
8: What motivates you to check out a new artist?

It can be anything really... Like even the artist's name or their photo or artwork. For example, I discovered an amazing band called Bay Faction on Spotify because I thought their profile photo was unique.
9: Who was the first band/artist that became your favorite band?

Oh there were a few growing up... Linkin Park, Billy Talent, John Mayer. I was part of the Linkin Park online fan club when I was a kid, I got a t-shirt. It was awesome haha.
10: What was the inspiration for your song, “Lightning”?
Almost the entire song was written on acoustic in like an hour or two. Acoustic guitars can sound massive and evoke a lot of emotion, especially when you're playing open chords. I threw a capo on the 1st fret to experiment and eventually I was thrashing out the chorus chord progression. It immediately felt like RTP and the first thing I sang was "I feel like the lightning". Our best songs usually get written quickly like that. Art is magic.
