On September 19, 2025, Cherry Red released "Bound For Glory - Complete Recordings 1976-1979" by Strapps. It's a 4 CD boxset that includes their 4 studio albums and their live album.
Prior to this, only their first album was released on CD twice, one time in 2004 on Thunderbird and a second time in 2014 on Great Barrier Records. Their albums, "Secret Damage", "Prisoner Of Your Love", and "Ball Of Fire" have never been released on CD until 2025. Their live album, "Live At The Rainbow 1977" was a CD only release from 2008.
I discovered Strapps back in 2013, and they've been one of my favorite bands for a long time. I wrote about them for our Under The Radar series in 2019.
Strapps is one of many bands that wasn't promoted and that's why they aren't a well-known name. They are only being talked about by the people who were open minded enough to give them a listen back in the 1970s and thanks to Cherry Red, people have gained access to this hard-to-find music.
They are a hard-to-find band because Strapps albums were only released in Japan, the UK, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, Canada and France. This is what makes the first two albums not as hard to find, but the third and fourth albums were only released in Japan so they are near impossible to find. It took me years to find "Ball Of Fire" which I only got because a friend in Japan was kind enough to go to a Japanese record store and look for it for me. I still don't own an original copy of "Prisoner Of Your Love" because it's so rare.
I couldn't be happier to share that the Strapps catalog is finally available in this fantastic 4 CD boxset thanks to Cherry Red, who has released the catalogs of so many great artists.
