I discovered Star Star a few years ago while I was going through a box of my dad's promo flats. I loved the cover art of "The Love Drag Years" and I had it displayed in my room before I ever listened to the album. The reason it took me so long to listen to it was because the album wasn't available on Spotify and I wasn't able to figure out where my dad's CD copy of it was. Eventually, I did find the CD and burned it to my BlackBerry so I could listen to it. When I listened to it, I loved it.
Star Star is one of a few bands I remember discovering when I was younger, but I listened to them when I got older and I was always interested in them.
Most people know about their album on Roadrunner Records called "The Love Drag Years", but not many people know about their 1988 album "Go Go Girls In Love" which was released on Dragster Records.
By looking at photos of different lineups of Star Star, I discovered musicians like Mickey Mess, Kane Daily, Diz Kid Rolla, Carol Marrujo, and Darcy Drash.
Mickey Mess went on to be on Hope with Kent Jones, as well as New Improved God. He was also in Bad Bones with Jimmy Swan, and he released his own projects. He produced Scream Idol's debut album "Movie Mary" which was released in 2021.
This leads to the next chapter about Scream Idol. Johnnie and Weeds have brought us the terrific sounds of Scream Idol which blew my mind the first time I heard it.
These are not only people who created music that I love, but people that are my friends.
I've created a playlist so you can listen to Star Star, Scream Idol, Mickey Mess and Kane Daily.
