Interview: Them Evils

Published on 5 September 2022 at 10:05

1: How did you decide on the name, “Them Evils"?

Funny story actually. My mother was driving through Temecula, Ca while on vacation. She was texting the word "Temecula" spelt it wrong and Siri autocorrected it to "Them Evils".
2: What inspires you to create?

Great question! There are so many things we pull inspiration from. Music, life experience, struggle and strife, and partying with people that you love. But mainly it's because the better content you create, the more its consumed, and the more you can tour and create revenue and continue doing what you love.
3: What advice would you give to someone who wants to be in a creative profession?

Practice your craft endlessly and never give up. Surround yourself with nothing but creativeness and learn from other people's genius.
4: Do you feel open minded about what you listen to? Do you like going out of your comfort zone?

I listen to everything now, especially country. Music is always changing and becoming more challenging. From production to songwriting. It's an evolving machine.
5: What outlets do you find out about music from? (Record stores, magazines, samplers, etc.)

Mostly word of mouth or bands we see at festivals. I randomly come across killer bands via playlists on Spotify as well.
6: What is your favorite format to listen to music on? (CD, Vinyl, etc.)

Vinyl, duh.
7: What band/artist do you think everyone should listen to?

Royal Blood. They are absolutely one of the best bands to come out in the last ten years. It's in your face, no bullshit, hard hitting rock n' roll.
8: How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?

Hmmm... this is complicated. For better and for worse. I'll focus on the positive aspects though. The internet is full of free promotion. You don't need to pay PR companies or magazines to shamelessly push your product down people's throat. You can do just do it yourself.
9: Who was the first band/artist that became your favorite band?

Green Day. Still to this day they are one of the best bands to grace our ear holes.
10: If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

Metallica. Stadium shows. They are my heroes.
11: Which qualities do you think make a great musician?

Endless determination. Striving for originality. The ability to weave sounds from different instruments on all different frequencies to sound pleasing to a set of ears. Not giving a damn and always doing what you love.
12: What was the inspiration for your song “OVRDRVE”?

Well, Jake and I moved from Las Vegas almost eight years ago. It was about coming to California and striving for success and never giving up no matter what tries to stop us. We could write a book about our band from the last four years. Our lives in and out of the band have been filled with so many ups and downs. The majority of our new music comes from that.
