If there's one topic we discuss at GenClash, it's the importance of music promotion. The only way we discover new music is if it's promoted to us, or if we look at CDs, cassettes, or vinyl and write down albums we want to check out.
The music industry promotes what they want to promote. We all have our favorite artists that make us wonder why they aren't being promoted as much as another artist is. Instead of an artist becoming popular because it's impressive, it becomes popular because they are overpromoted, while other acts aren't being promoted at all. All artists should be promoted, because that is the job of a label...not to only sign an artist and help them to release an album, but to promote that artist and help listeners discover their music.
You can't say the labels don't try, because they do make samplers, but who is going to make time to listen to them? People who want to discover new music. These people are hard to find because most people listen to what they like and don't want to listen to anything new because they think they won't like it. What you have to realize is that all you have to do is listen. You don't have to listen to hundreds of songs to make a 20 song sampler. You get the sampler for free, and get to listen to these artists.
The only thing standing between you and your new favorite artist is pressing play. When you hear an artist you love, share it with others. Make a playlist. Talk about it. This is how we help others to discover new music.
Our playlist features tunes by: Silencers, Mother May I, City Boy, XYZ, The Hunt, Disturbance, I Love You, Big Chief, Piss Factory, The Angels, Kim Mitchell, Sweet Pain, Cherry St., Salty Dog, Franke & The Knockouts, The Throbs, Liar, Girl, Venom, Off Broadway, and more!!!
