Retronaut Selects: Hounds - Unleashed (1978)

I first found about Hounds from record shopping. I remember finding a copy of it at Main St. Jukebox for a few dollars and it was a white label promo!

The first time I listened to it I remember it being hard to get into because all of the songs seem so different from each other, and I didn't realize that debut albums are like that for a reason.

Just in case you don't know about my debut album theory, I'll tell you it. To me, debut albums are meant to show all the things a band can do. What does it sound like if they play a rock song? A ballad? Faster songs, slower songs.

If you want to find out how this band does that, you have to listen to their debut album. It shows how much they are capable of, and is usually the most interesting release because of how diverse it is.

Hounds deliver a fantastic, diverse debut that you need to hear.

Essential Tracks: Bite The Dog, I'll Be Your Magic Man, Janine Tangerine
